FIRST Lego League Junior
Who: Kids aged (6-10) are invited to join teams! However, This can't be done without your help! We need volunteers to help make this possible. Click here to see volunteer opportunities! Is your child between the ages of 9-14? If so, please refer to the FLL page!
Cost: Required a STEAM On membership and an one time payment of $75 for the entire season. (Travel costs and other expenses will have to be covered by the families. We will also have scholarship options available. If you have questions about this please contact info@STEAMOn.net.)
What: FIRST LEGO League Junior (FLL Jr.) is an international exhibition organized by FIRST for elementary school students (ages 6–10). Each year in August, FIRST LEGO League Junior introduces a scientific and real-world challenge for teams to focus and research on. The robotics part of the competition involves designing and programming a WeDo 2.0 motorized model/ diorama that represents the teams research project. The students work out solutions to the various problems they are given and then meet for regional exhibitions to share their knowledge, compare ideas, and display their models and research projects.
Where: We will be hosting teams at several locations in the CR metro area, including NE CR/Marion, NW, and at our Kirkwood Location: 1770 Boyson Rd, Room 108, Hiawatha, IA, United States, 52233. We intend on expanding to more of our locations as we grow. In addition, some of our Partner Affiliates will be hosting teams at their own facilities.
When: STEAM On wants to make FLL Jr. available to as many people as possible, this is why we are offering a few different time slots. These time slots will be chosen by the coaches and mentors on the teams. When you apply we will make sure it can work with your schedule.
Why: The primary goal of FLL Jr. is to provide an engaging experience for students and mentors to foster future engineers and other STEAM jobs. We want to provide a research-oriented experience for all who are wanting to learn about cool topics. We aim to equip everyone involved with new tools that they will be able to use throughout their lifetimes.
